Hetty Verolme - Holocaust Survivor
During Week 4 our students had the honour of listening to Hetty Verolme, a remarkable woman who is a Jewish Holocaust survivor. She was born in Belgium in 1930 and was sent to Bergen – Belsen concentration camp in 1943 at the age of 13 where she became known as the “Little Mother” as she was the oldest of the children. After surviving the Holocaust, she migrated to Australia at the age of 24, where she has lived ever since.
She retold some of her experiences during her visit, engaging our students with a life story of gratitude, struggle and survival.
