Amazing Achievements by our AvÐÔ°® Public Speakers

On Saturday May 20th, four students represented AvÐÔ°® in the Rostrum Voice of Youth Public Speaking semi finals in Inglewood. The students represented the College with confidence and great ability. It made me so proud to be associated with these young people.

All students needed to present a prepared speech (6 minutes Junior/ 8 minutes Senior) as well as delivering a 3-minute impromptu speech after 15 minutes preparation with no access to information.

Congratulations to each of the following participants:

Junior Section

Year 8 - Gianni Petta
Year 9 - Mosaia McDonald

Senior Section

Year 10 - Ike Adesanya
Year 12 - Olivia Fuderer

The students’ speeches were truly inspirational but, as one would expect, the competition is intense at this level. However, I am delighted to inform you that we have 3 students proceeding to the State Finals. Gianni Petta, Mosaia McDonald and Ike Adesanya will deliver a new speech in the state competition on the 24th June.

Olivia Fuderer narrowly missed out after facing tough competition in her heat. I would like acknowledge Olivia especially, for her dedication to public speaking. In the week preceding the competition, she had four exams with another one scheduled for the Monday after. In addition to the heavy workload Olivia has in Year 12, she gives generously of her time to coach a group of Year 7 public speakers every Tuesday after school. Olivia is a true role model and a dedicated student.

Thank you to all the students for their commitment and enthusiasm in taking up the challenge of public speaking. I am so grateful to the parents and families of our competitors who came along to support and encourage them. This support made all the difference on the day.

If you would like to hear them, along with the speeches from all our talented public speakers, come along to the AvÐÔ°® Christi College Public Speaking Competition which is being held on Wednesday 28th June at 6.30pm for a start at 7.00 pm in the Sadler Centre.  Please email me if you would like to attend.
